When someone asks ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or Perplexity a question today, they rarely click through ten blue links anymore, they read the answer the AI gives them. That answer is stitched together from content the engine decided to trust. wpAEO exists to make sure your content is part of that answer.

Why we built this

Traditional SEO was built for a web where humans typed queries into a search box and scanned results. Answer engines work differently. They parse meaning, extract facts, cite sources, and reward content that is structured, unambiguous, and explicitly authoritative. The rules have shifted, but the tools most site owners rely on haven’t caught up.

We built wpAEO because WordPress powers a huge portion of the open web, and the people running those sites, small publishers, independent experts, niche businesses, deserve the same visibility inside AI answers that large enterprises can afford to engineer. A plugin is the fastest way to close that gap.

Our goal

Make any WordPress site legible to answer engines without requiring the owner to become a schema specialist, a prompt engineer, or a data scientist. If you can write a post, you should be able to get it cited.

What we're trying to do

We want every post on a wpAEO site to ship with the things AI engines actually consume: a clear summary, structured FAQs, explicit entities, trustworthy authority signals, and machine-readable formats like markdown endpoints and llms.txt manifests. We measure this with an 11-criteria AEO score so improvement is concrete rather than mystical.

We also want to close the feedback loop. It isn’t enough to optimize, you need to know whether it worked. That’s why we track AI bot visits, monitor citations across platforms, and surface competitive gaps. Optimization without measurement is just guessing.

What drives us

Three beliefs shape the product.

First, discoverability shouldn’t be a privilege of scale. The open web is healthier when small, expert voices can reach readers directly, and AI answer engines are the new front door.

Second, structure is kindness. Well-formatted, clearly-scoped content helps AI systems, but it also helps human readers, accessibility tools, and translators. Doing this well is a net good for the web.

Third, site owners should own their strategy. We expose the scoring criteria, the schema output, and the raw data — no black boxes. You should be able to see exactly why a post scores the way it does and exactly what gets sent to crawlers.
